Commentary
  • Counters physical attacks with Slow / Maelstrom
  • Counters ice/fire/lightning attacks with Icestorm/Inferno/Thunderbolt respectively

Just like the White Dragon in Golbez event’s Bonus Battles but much easier. Use Poison/Non-ele magic or Retaliate. Make sure to reduce incoming damage with the relevant Breakdowns and buffs.

Heal: Recover some HP to one target.
Megaflare: Deal massive non-elemental damage to all targets.
Commentary
Just like the Dark Bahamut in Golbez event, Dark Bahamut begins the fight with Megaflare. Not as punishing as before though. It can be easily healed through with AoE heal RW like Hymn of the Fayth. Use Poison/Non-ele spells as usual. Otherwise physical attacks are also fine since Dark Bahamut does not have any counters in this encounter. Dispel is also not very necessary. Make sure the party is topped up going into the last boss!
BOSS 3 Ogopogo Stamina 20, Stages 1, experience value TBC
Target Score (i) Defeat Ogopogo without being KO’d.
HP
~87000
Elements
WEAK
ABSORB Water
RESIST All except Poison / Water / Lightning
NULL
Debuff Vulnerabilities
Slow / Blind / Sap
Abilities
Attack: Deal physical damage to one target.
Deluge: Deal very heavy water damage to all targets.
Frost Blast (Counter): Deal heavy damage to all targets proportional to HP. (trigger: magic attacks)
Whirl (Counter): Deal massive damage to one target proportional to HP. (trigger: lightning attacks)
Commentary
Ogopogo begins the fight with Deluge twice.

Having Hymn of the Fayth is great here. Other than that, use whatever abilities you have left. Bringing lightning attacks are not recommended because firstly it is not vulnerable to it, and secondly lightning attacks are countered with a punishing counter. As usual, Magic Breakdown makes the fight much more comfortable.

Part 1 Stamina 20, Stages 1
First Time Completion Greater Dark Orb x5, Dark Cecil’s Memory Crystal II
Completion Reward 30000 Gil
Mastery Reward Greater Power Orb x5, Major Non-Elemental Orb x2
Target Score (i) Defeat Odin without being KO’d.

(iii) Exploit Odin’s weakness to lightning attacks.

► Sword Raised

Zantetsuken: Deal massive physical damage to all targets.

Strategy
  • Odin will occasionally raise his sword, preparing for Zantetsuken. He becomes weak to lightning during this time.
  • Zantetsuken will be cast two turns after Odin has raised his sword.

Unlike in IV, Zantetsuken is not interrupted after being hit by lightning spells. So you are forced to mitigate it instead. Lunatic High is recommended here, and with Slowga, you’ll be getting a lot more turns than Odin.

Curse: Reduce one target’s stats.
Attack: Deal physical damage to one target.
Maelstrom: Deal massive damage to one target, proportional to HP.
Stone Touch: Petrify one target.
Cursed Elegy: Slow all targets (trigger: physical attacks)
Strategy
As you can see from his abilities, Geyron is armed with all of the Elemental Archfiends’ signature attacks.

In this fight you are required to inflict Sap on Geyron. At this point of the game there is only one ability that is capable of doing just that and that is Shadowblade which is the reward from the boss rush. Another way is if you have Vaan’s Zwill Crossblade, as White Whorl has a medium chance of inflicting Sap. Also there is the 5★ Sniper relic from VI, which has an added effect of inflicting Sap on hit, albeit a low chance.

Geyron’s magic will hurt a lot, as long as you keep it controlled with Magic Breakdown you should be fine. Boon + Slowga is a great combo, although if your physical attacks get countered then that nullifies the Haste so do take note.

Strategy
  • Rubicante enters his Defensive stance after every 3 turns.
  • Rubicante returns to his Normal stance either after a few turns, or by using Thief abilities on him while he is Defensive stance (e.g. Steal Power, etc)
  • Steal Time has no effect as Rubicante is immune to Slow; Steal HP deals physical damage and is therefore subject to Rubicante’s counter.
  • When Rubicante is Weak, he has a chance to immediately follow up his first action with Inferno (interrupt).
  • When brought to 50%, the Rubicante’s Defensive stance turn counter resets.

Bringing non-elemental magic/summons is a great idea since it is the only thing that can damage Rubicante while he is Defending, alternatively you can use Thief abilities to force him back to his Normal stance, though take note of which Thief abilities are invalid (as mentioned above). Watch the videos below for various strategies and take a look at some sample parties further below. Good luck!

  1. For the Geryon fight, Sephiroth’s black materia soul break could also be used to inflict sap. Not sure of the chance of it hitting but it’s there.

    1. There’s sap in Bartz’s Wing Blade too. Also not very realible, but there you go.

      1. In this event, you can draw Golbez’s Ebon Armor for the Sap attack as well. However, well, you know about getting the armor in draws.

  2. White Dragon Exp 4971
    Dark Bahamut Exp 4971
Ogopogo Exp Exp 4971 Also uses Deluge twice in the beginning of fight

  3. DOCTOR MOG said Geryon is vulnerable to stop
    is that true?

  4. Is rubicantes inferno physical damage? Shellga and magic breakdown aren’t lowering its damage at all.

    1. Inferno is magic damage. You may have been hit by Blaze (I have written it here as Scorch, I’ll edit it ASAP), which does %HP damage and cannot be mitigated.

      1. Indeed it was blaze. I was only looking at the attack animation and since blaze and inferno are the same I got confused. Thanks!

    2. It should be magic damage. Blaze however, cannot be mitigated as it’s 1/4 of max health or 1/2 when weakened.

      1. Yup thanks! As I said above, I was only looking at the attack animations and since inferno and blaze have the same animation I got mixed up. Turns out I just had horrible rng and kept getting blaze spammed. After quite a few s/l I finally got better rng and took him down.

        1. Blaze spams were the worst. Took a few s/l for me, too, before he stopped that noise.

  5. Wooooooo, hardest boss fight yet, got him though and mastered

    1. Hmm… I thought Exdeath was much harder, but maybe I just got unlucky AoE spams on him. Rubicante was definitely no joke, though. Hymn of the fayth RW was HUGE here.
