Event Rules

This event is a little different from previous ones. There are no Classic/Elite dungeons in this event. Instead, It is divided into two: Edgar’s dungeons and Sabin’s dungeons. Each set of dungeons will consist of dungeons with difficulties ranging from Easy → Normal → Hard → Heroic. Completing all dungeons will unlock an EX dungeon and subsequently an EX+ one, though they are usually released a few days later

You start with Edgar’s dungeons and clearing some of it will unlock Sabin’s. As you clear each dungeon, newer ones of increasing difficulty will be unlocked. Take look at the following flowchart for a quick illustration!

Strategy
Because they have different elemental weaknesses, it would be wise to bring magic/abilities of various elements. Otherwise, non-elemental abilities work just fine. Don’t forget to fulfil the special score conditions. Protectga is also recommended in case the tentacles get too overwhelming.Given all are vulnerable to slow, Mirage Dive will do some serious work here.


Alternative strategy: If you have Break, you can use Break to instantly kill Lower Right, Upper Right, and Upper Left Tentacles, leaving you with Lower Left Tentacle left, which you can use fire abilities against. However, this requires your Break to be at least rank 2. Nevertheless, rank 1 works just as well, you just have to deal with two Tentacles, and you can use AoE to clear them with ease. (Note that the Upper Left Tentale absorbs earth, so make sure you petrify that one if you’re going to use things like Quake)

Looking at his abilities, first thing you want to do is to shield your party with Shellga and/or Sentinel’s Grimoire. Magic Breakdown will also help a lot here. Although he has high HP, he has weakness that is lightning. So make sure you bring as much honed lightning abilities as you can. Poison is also great here, definitely a must!

TIP! Use the round just before the boss fight to set up your mitigation, i.e. Shellga + Sentinel’s Grimoire.

Phantom Train is surprisingly tanky here. However, it is an undead AND it is vulnerable to Instant KO, so the quickest (and probably the wisest) way to kill it is with Raise.

However, if you are a masochist, I can’t stop you! Use Armor/Mental Break to break its defenses and boost your overall DPS. Though, beware of its Diabolic Whistle. Unless you brought an Esuna with you, it’s going to be pretty annoying.

When Ultima Weapon’s HP drops below a certain amount, it will enter its Readying Flare Star form. A message will be displayed telling you so.A good approach to beating Ultima Weapon is to Slow him at the start while getting his HP down to the Readying Flare Star threshold. When you see the message pop up, you want to Intimidate him ASAP. When it lands, defeat him quickly using Breakdowns and hard hitting abilities. If your Intimidate charges run out, Slow him for extra insurance.

Commentary
Slow Ultima Weapon right off the bat and gain back some momentum from the previous fight. Use this time to top the party up if needed. Power/Magic Break(down) to control incoming damage as well. Make full use of Intimidate and throw everything you have at the boss. Use any remaining charges of Sentinel’s Grimoire where necessary.

Strategy
Basically the same fight as the Blue Dragon you fought previously except this time with higher health. Magic Breakdown + Sentinel’s Grimoire should keep incoming damage at bay. Unless your lightning abilities are well-honed, you can consider other strategies like Retaliate. Or you can use a mixture. Remember to poison for extra dps!

  1. I hate how these guides keep telling you to use an ability you can’t make, there needs to be alternate starts for when you haven’t gotten those abilities cause you weren’t here day one.

      That’s the way the game is. As a newbie, don’t expect to clear the events 100%. Farm whatever you can then turn green with envy looking at the stuff you miss. Meantime, daily dungeons and realms are there for you to get whatever you need to tackle the next event.

      Don’t like it? Spam money and outfit your characters with full 5-7 star gear. That helps a little.

      Sorry to burst your bubble. But if a newbie can do what a veteran can, what’s the point of veterans sticking around?

      Here’s a pro-tip among all the ego bashing:

      Shiny new skill? Oh I have enough orbs! Let’s craft it!

      WRONG. save your orbs and let the next event determine what you need to craft.

      1. Perfectly said Truthhurts. I started playing when Locke’s event was underway, I was happy enough just to grab him before he went away. Since then I’ve been watching how I progressed, being able to handle the first 2 elite bosses in future events until finally beating all of those and then attempting boss rushes. I do the same exact thing, I farm daily dungeons for orbs (I try to keep ~100 of each 3 star orb) and hone what I’ll end up needing when the next event hits. Hell I couldn’t master the 2nd boss rushes for the previous events, and I look forward to trying on this one.

    2. Agree with Truthhurts.
      These events are hard enough having the right skills. There really ISN’T another way to take out these guys. If you don’t have the abilities listed, spend time somewhere else farming orbs to make the abilities you need and try again on a later event. I’ve been playing since day 1 and i couldn’t beat the first few EX bosses that were released. I couldn’t even finish some of the events (Rinoa’s event comes to mind – didn’t even come close to finishing it).
